How-to guides and Zones from our Home and Garden Channel Managers

 container gardening zone

Want to see a beautiful zone full of colorful pictures which will prompt even the worst brown-thumbers out there to try their hand at indoor gardening? Then look no further. Susan Klatz Beal will guide you through the wonderful world of container gardening in her aptly named zone. Here's the intro for the Container Gardening Zone:

Container gardening is a great way to grow your favorite plants.  Herbs, vegetables, and flowers can all be grown in containers with the right materials and a little know-how.

In addition to traditional "houseplants" like philodendrons and potted cacti, indoor container gardeners can enjoy fresh herbs year around and have flowers blooming in the winter.  With the right equipment, it is even possible to grow veggies indoors. For gardeners with limited outdoor space, containers provide a means to make a balcony or patio into a real garden, complete with peas, beans, and tomatoes as well as herbs and flowers....read more.

Furniture

Brooke Shambley

I am a writer. Well, aren't we all? I went to college intending to be an English major and came out with a degree in Art, a minor in Music, and another minor in Leadership. I admit, I was extremely daunted by the proposition of two senior theses. However, most importantly I found that as I wrote in the collegiate setting, my professors in English sought to transform my writing into a form more scholarly and more "fitting", instead of just leading me to discover ..... What is a Channel Manager?

join handsChannel Managers are writers' and readers' guides around Helium.  Their "contact this writer" buttons always work, and if they don't know, they will find an answer to your questions.

They have amassed articles in their chosen subject, and many others, and are willing to share that knowledge with any who would seek it.

Imbibed in the spirit of giving, stewards help readers find material, writers find their voice and everyone find Helium.

Conduits in the information chain, stewards bring Helium news to the public eye.  They twitter and stumble upon most everything, even if they digg it, too.

Real world knowledge comes from their hands-on experiences.  Channel Managers open windows.

Quality is the Channel Manager mantra.  In their own writing, in the writing of their mentees, on the Helium site, they strive to bring the best information to the fore through writing, rating and education.

Many stewards inhabit the forums.  They are the writer's pipeline into Helium.  By suggesting titles, opening debates and listening to the writers, stewards find ways to bring knowledge to everyone.

Channel Managers learn.  They keep their minds open to opposing opinion, marketing strategy, hot topics, demands for content and new ways to educate themselves, all while finding new ways to help Heliumites the world over.

If you need a hand, a  Channel Manager will be there.

If you would like to lend a hand, become a steward. Read Barbara Whitlock's article on the  Channel Manager Program.  Contact me for more details.

Meet all the Helium Channel Managers.

We are all here for you.

Guide to writing articles for Helium's Home & Garden Channel

by Jim Bessey

Writing for Helium's Home & Garden channel adheres to the same principles you will follow for many of our other channels, with one important difference: you may find yourself offering "how-to" advice to our readers.

When you do offer advice for working with power tools and construction equipment, please include some safety tips for potential novices - just in case!

Otherwise, writing articles for any of our sub-channels calls for the same professional approach you would use anywhere on Helium to produce a high-quality Internet magazine article...  Read More
